Speakers and Talks

Duncan Barford
Duncan Barford came to magic from a lifelong interest in the paranormal and forteana, and an academic background in literature and psychoanalysis. His main areas of interest are the integration of magical and spiritual practice, the nature of psychical experience, vipassana meditation, and the writings of Rudolf Steiner. He is co-host of the world's foremost magical website, www.thebaptistshead.co.uk, and is completing a book about magic and the paranormal: Occult Experiments in the Home.

White Hair and Brown Pants: When Magic Turns Paranormal
If we gain a result from magic, is it helpful to describe this as a 'paranormal' event? This talk will investigate the meaning of 'the paranormal' in relation to magic, and suggest that it casts interesting light on our understanding of both, leading in some very unexpected directions...

Magic with a K: How to Spell Correctly
At the turn of the 21st Century, there are more magical traditions and approaches available to the Western magician than ever before in history; yet why is it so difficult to answer the most basic questions about magick, such as what is magick? And why would someone want to practice it?
Magic with a K: How to spell correctly will explore the greatest danger facing the tradition of magick at this time: the rot of extreme postmodernism, and how we might rehabilitate magick without regressing to the transcendental dogma of the last century. The talk comes complete with a free practical instruction in a new 21st Century approach to the core practice of magick!

Codes to the Power of Heart: a Shamanic Perspective
